Well it took forever to start, but I did it. Got my bearring set from the local hobby shop yesterday (29.99 with tax included) and installed. Got my schematics for the chassis. Have located carbon fiber dealers on line, but may still go with aluminum when I find it . I'm thinking firetruck for the body, if I can find one, maybe even working lights and sirens.

Took a look at that site, they must of pulled it off the shelf. Got an axle from the new revo the other day. I'm going to try to make it work with the A-1 hubs. I'm going to remove some material out of the center to install a bearing for the piece holding the axle shaft to ride in. Adam are the revo shafts the same size as the shafts (part that the wheel rides on) you used when you chopped the hubs and installed the bearings. If so it will be easy to take care of that aspect of the mod. If not, I'll need to find a longer shaft to install in the revo axle. Luckly they are removable. I thoucht about using the original metal wheel carriers, but they are slightly too small. Also, looking for some sassy metal out drives, preferably the 2nd editions that are beefier, or anything thats comparable. Ken

Great day Got an aluminum supplier, finally, and he is only 6 miles away. Check this, 3/16x1'x2' $10 bucks. Told me I could have it fo nothing, but it's christmas. Plenty more where that came from, I'm sure I'll need it. Thinking about a 2 piece chassis connected in middle via a large 1:1 wheel bearing. Mass articulation for crawling and a couple of removable brackets, that can be reinstalled to keep chassis inline and stiff, for bashing. Oh the possibilities are almost overwhelming. :)Ken

Also, if anyone is interested in materials you can pm me. I'll give you his name and location of buisness. He works with all different types of sheet alumn. He sells the stuff out of the scrap pile and what a pile it is. Ken

Ken The slider shafts I used were from the Traxxas rustler. The ones on the EVO and Emaxx are too big. AS for the axles if you type USA-1 axles in your search engine you will get a link to a website that makes them for $150.00. That's with sliders and u-joints. As for the aluminum outdrives all I can say is watch ebay. You might get lucky. I purchased 4 for $20.

Adam, why do you say they are to big? I plan on using Revo hubs instead of the stock ones, if thats the reason.Ken

It's because of the clearance between the uprights. I had to dremel a fair amount off to accomidate the Rustler sliders. When you turn the wheels from left to right they moved slightly forward and backward with my axle modifation. I think if you order the axles from that machinist you don't have to do that. Adam

If I'm using the revo hubs, I don't see that as a problem, am I overlooking something? ;D

Explain your definition of hubs. The piece I am talking about is called the upright that the "dogbone" rides in between and the upper suspension arm attaches to.

All of the original hardware,If all goes to plan, will be replaced with the revo set up. This includes: dogbones, uprights, wheel carrier shafts. Basically the whole knuckle and any suspension parts that would connect it to the chassis or gearbox. It sounds like a big job, because it is. I'm confident it'll work out if I get my hands on the right tools, parts, and medical advice (lol). Does this give you a better idea of my intensions.

Ya it does give me a better idea. You are not the first to try attaching maxx stuff to a usa-1 chassis and gearboxes. It should work. Have fun. Ask questions.

Drew up my template today for the chassis, closely resembles the dragoon on the craftlab site. Should have it fabricated in the next day or so. Installed a thorp ball diff (locked) in the rear. Tried to get one for the front on ebay, but was sniped . Soooo I'll have to lock the plastic gears or hope to acquire a 2nd diff. for the front. The IFS/IRS will be fully functional along with 4 link suspension for the mass articulation I desire The wheelbase will be approx. 16.5" Lots more stuff, but it will have to wait untill the chassis is complete.

Cut one side of the chassis today out of 1/8" alumn. First time I used a scroll saw. I can't believe it either, just never had reason to I guess . It turned out sweet after I finished filing the rough edges. I still need to drill all mounting locations and build a second one. What turn buckles do y'all recommend for the links?

Got the other side cut today. Tomorrow I will shave them to match, shine them a little then some pics. I have never done much fabbing in my day, except on houses. I love building and working on the rc trucks is great. Right now I got a truck-in-a-bag. I take it everywhere and tinker with it. Doesn't matter if I'm working at the hospital or the station it's there. I consider it therapy, a release from all the other stuff that treads on my noodle. Can't wait to get far enough to post some pics and see what y'all think. Later Ken

This will be the first pic I have attempted to post, so bear with me. The ruler is a scale ruler, but 12" none the less. I still need to drill for all the hardware; obviously, but here's my homemade chassis so far. Ken Got it on the desktop, can't figure out how to move it to the post here. I am a computer moron. Hope it works ;D

Made the plates for my gearboxes yesterday and put them in the freezer. Gonna try to bend them to fit without cracking them in the next day or 2. They will provide mounting points for the 4 link susp, alumn rod shock towers for ifs springs, and a place to mount servos. Will post pics if the bends are a success. I still need to clean them up a bit, bolt them in, add the towers, and servo mounts. Hmmmmm maybe dual servos per axle.
